How did you choose your derby name and number?
I was interested in #100 but thought it would be too cliche so I added a 1 and made it #101. When thinking up my derby name "Viper," I wanted to be a Jammer and thought about the type of techniques I would use to get through a wall. I wanted to be a Jammer that was quick and deadly yet graceful and agile like a snake.
How did you start playing roller derby?
I was originally an ice skater but turned to roller skating at Skateland. That's where my family and I found out about roller derby. I was pretty young at the time so we decided to wait until I was 11.
What position do you play/enjoy the most?
I enjoy pivoting because I'm able to block but also ready to jam. It's a bit of both.
What is your favorite roller derby memory?
My favorite memory is when Hitalian, Zoe, and I were skating around the track and practicing our hitting. Zoe was hit and slammed into the metal container, and then I was sent flying into a muddy puddle after being hit by Hitalian. It was one of the funniest moments at derby but it was also a sad day because my gear was muddy and my leggings were wet but I still skated.
What do your school friends and family think of you playing roller derby?
I don't mention roller derby to my car friends much but my family supports it and loves it as much as I do.
