Rude Aquakening #27
Tell us about how you chose your name and number.
I chose Rude Aquakening, based off my last name Rudenberg and because I like to shake things up on the track.
The number 27 represents the dialing code for South Africa, which is where I am from.
What position do you play? What are your derby goals?
I tend to block, sometimes pivot and once in a while will get thrown in as relief jammer. I love blocking because I love the teamwork aspect of it, that moment when you crush the souls of your enemies as one unified force is pretty epic. On the other hand, I like the puzzle that is jamming, even though my endurance is nowhere it needs to be. So my goals are to work on endurance and to learn new soul-crushing moves.
How and why did you get involved in roller derby?
I started roller derby because I moved here from South Africa and didn’t really know anyone. It was a way to push myself while getting to know some super amazing people.
Who inspires you on the track?
I see inspiration in all of my league mates. I’m so lucky to get to skate with all sorts of amazing people, from skaters with over 10 years of derby experience to the freshies. They all inspire me to be the best version of myself for them.
What is your favorite derby memory?
My favorite derby memory is being the jammer in the last jam of last years home team championships against the Van Nuys Valkyries. The blockers were on fire holding the other jammer and then drawing a penalty, so I was able to get the points and against all odds, Reseda Wreckers won!!!
What advice do you have for someone new to derby?
DO IT!!!! It’s definitely worth it.
