From our CALL TO ACTION:
Here are some ways to take action, and some organizations local to our beautifully diverse community:
You can help the LGBTQIA community by educating yourself, speaking out against discrimination, and supporting LGBTQ people. You can also support LGBTQIA organizations that offer resources and services.
Educate yourself;
Learn about LGBTQIA issues and rights
Read books by LGBTQIA authors
Attend LGBTQIA events
Speak out against discrimination;
Don't make assumptions about people's sexual orientation or gender identity
Speak out against homophobia, transphobia, and anti-LGBTQIA harassment
Report anti-LGBTQIA harassment or discrimination
Speak up when you witness discriminatory behavior
Advocate politically - contact your local elected officials via letters, calls, or emails
Attend Protests and Demonstrations (know your rights, practice nonviolence, be respectful)
Support LGBTQIA people;
Stand up for your LGBTQIA friends
Affirm their identity and use their pronouns
Create an anti-oppressive, gender-affirming space
Amplify marginalized Voices - share and promote content from individuals or groups affected by discrimination.
Support affected communities - donations, volunteering, support businesses/artists/creators
Join advocacy groups or grassroots movement
Practice self-care and resilience. This time can be emotionally taxing; take care of yourself and your friends so you can stay in the fight for the long haul.
